Ms. Emilia Koumeli is a seasoned lawyer, with both in-house and law firm practice experience. Ms. Koumeli has spent most of her career acting as in-house legal counsel to international companies, offering legal advice and strategic guidance to management and their teams in relation to commercial shipping and general corporate and business matters.
Ms. Koumeli began her legal career as an associate at Healy & Baillie, LLP, an international maritime law firm in New York City which is now part of Blank Rome LLP.Ms. Koumeli joined Technomar Shipping Inc., a ship management company with a fleet at the time of 40 container vessels, as in-house legal counsel in 2004 where she acquired broad experience in commercial, corporate and contentious shipping matters.
Ms. Koumeli has been with the North Star Group since 2010 when she joined Niki Shipping Company S.A. as Corporate Counsel. She has since become Head of Legal Affairs and manages all legal matters for the North Star Group of companies and their activities in shipping, real estate, energy and technology.
Ms. Koumeli holds a B.A. in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School. She is qualified to practice law in New York and Connecticut.
